I've noticed recently that I'm checking the world news every day. I've never done that before. Ever. The news emotionally impacts me more than I'd like therefore I'd rather not watch it. We don't need to watch the news to know that there are people constantly committing crimes of all kinds around us, in our own neighborhoods, because there are also good things happening to it.
But the past 100 days or so have been full of big, sad, shocking, or heartbreaking events from all around the world. While I don't like watching my local news, I do think it's extremely important to stay aware for many reasons but for one: in case I can do my part and help others in some way. Our culture has been given glimpses of what is going on outside the US, people dying because they have faith, need food, or need freedom, and it most likely leaves you feeling a couple things: sad, angry, restless, or helpless because..."
How can I help from here?
What are we supposed to do with this information?H
ow do we do our life, knowing the devastating situations of other people's lives who are located thousands of miles away? This is not to dismiss the injustice in our own cities, states, and country. But what if we focus on what we can do to help others? Lets not deny others of what we can offer whether that be time, money, or spreading awareness. If you think the world feels heavy right now you're not alone.
"What do you do when the world feels heavy?
When darkness seems greater & stronger than light.
How do you help from miles away?
When all you desire is to stand up for what’s right.
There’s starvation, slavery & violence like we’ve never first hand seen.
This continues while comes into our homes, all we know is what we see on our screens.
Everywhere in some form of way,
people are just trying to make it one more day.
Let it not be another lesson that puts life into perspective.
Because I don’t want to just be moved, I want to be affective.
Lord I trust that you see what’s been done,
because nothing is new for you under the sun.
Every century has its horrific destruction,
I don’t want to get used to it, I don’t want to grow numb.
In your circle let kindness create a ruction,
& and let just be your recurring drum."
