I’ve been restless for about 5 weeks now.
In case you wanted to know six weeks ago was when “Joyward” ended (our road-trip around the country/book tour). When we arrived back in Oklahoma I rested for a week, and I got great sleep because we weren’t sharing a room with the cats. It was peaceful! But then hit me so hard. “I’m going crazy! Oh, wait… I’m just restless. Oh right, I’ve been bouncing around America seeing a new location about every 4 days and now I’ve been waking up to the same sky for a week!” (Don’t feel bad for me. I’m being dramatic. There are other things more troubling than being in the same place for more than a week, which isn’t troubling). Post road-trip life we temporally lived with my in-laws (thank you!), and now we temporally live with my dad (thanks dad!).
There’s a part of me that wants that constant change, where you feel new and you’re ultra curious. A pace where your mind is always alert because you’re soaking in the unfamiliar culture around you. The kind of week where you don’t know where you’re going to end up, it could be a campground in Yosemite, a suburb of Seattle, or it could be a Wal-Mart parking lot. The kind of change where you’re feeling creative at almost every turn because the landscape is so breathtaking, I-love-that.
Then there’s the part of me that wants my own space, my own home to decorate and have people over. A pace where I can be productive on what I’m striving for with my book and photography business. The kind of week where I can make plans to catch up with people and have community because I know I’ll be around.
Both worlds are so beautiful to me! My heart loves them equally and immensely. But what world am I in?
Hi…..I’m currently in the in-between and unplugged.
Unplugged from world 1, and waiting to plug into world 2. WAITING. I want one or the other, just not the middle.
Can you relate?I day dream about the reality I just lived and the reality of what’s to come along with it’s unknowns. I tend to over look the “middle” days/seasons. Not really giving them any credit, like they’re not capable of something great!
But what if they are?
What if we changed the way we looked at the in-between?
I tend to view them like minor details, kind of annoying, non-important, and sometimes maybe even a waste.
But, a day in the “in-between” is no different from a day in your dream life.
Each day counts. There is no such thing as an unimportant day.
If you use the in-between wisely, then it can actually be the beginning to the next season.
Like the verse found in Zechariah 4:10, “Do not despise these small beginnings…….”
Do not overlook dull middles.
